Client letter options |
The DT Max default client letter is located in the DT Max system
directory (C:\Program Files\DT Max\). The English default letter is
DTnWLET.yyE and the French default letter is DTnWLET.yyF, where "n" represents the program number and
"yy" represents the applicable tax year.
If you wish to use a different client letter as a default, you may use the
feature titled Create new letter template found under the
Client letter option of the Preferences menu.
Select the letter that you wish to use as a template for your new
customized letter among the existing English, French and other letters.
DT Max will then prompt you to enter the file name of the new letter template.
We recommend that the template files be named DTnLET.yyE for the English,
and DTnLET.yyF for the French, and that they be saved in the
\T1\yyyy year-specific database sub-folder.
Once you have assigned a name to your new client letter, click
Create new template and the template letter chosen will then be copied
to the new path, under the new name.
Next, click the Edit template button in
order to easily edit the letter using the Notepad program.
More details are available in the document
Customizing the client letter.
Once you are satisfied with your new letter, use it whenever
you wish by selecting it instead of the DT Max default letter. To do so,
simply tick and browse. DT Max will search for the desired letter in the
following locations:
- First, it will try the letter template file indicated in the
keyword ClientLetter , if any.
- Then, if the client letter options specify a particular letter to be
used rather than the default, it will look for that one.
- Thirdly, it will look for the template DTnLET.yyE year-specific database sub-folder.
- Last, it will look for the letter DTnWLET.yyE in the DT Max system
directory.
If your firm uses both English and French to communicate with clients, make
sure that a new default client letter is created in French as well.
